The Medical Apparatus and Instruments of Mexico Develops Sharply China's Exports to Mexico Suffered High Tariffs

Mexico's population has reached 114 million,national territorial area is near 2 million square kilometers.In the 1970s~1980s,Mexico's medical equipment industry fell behind other countries.However,after nearly 30 years of development,Mexico medical instrument output value amounted to 3.4 billion in 2012,being 4 times more than a decade ago.At the same time,Mexico is also the largest importer of medical equipment in Latin America.

Mexico affected by financial crisis is less than other countries.In 2012,the medical apparatus and instruments sales totalled $4.5 billion ~ $4.6 billion,over Brazil which has more population than Mexico in Latin America.Mexico is also the largest importer of medical equipment country in Latin America,70% of the medical instruments and equipment are from import.Because of it,Mexico becomes the "new battleground" of world's leading medical equipment producers to compete.

In 2011 and 2012,for two consecutive years,China's medical equipment exports topped $100 million to Mexico.However,export products are mainly with low added value in the diagnosis and treatment,rehabilitation and health materials products,high value products such as  breathing machine,cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) machine,X-ray machine,CT machine are very little.

Now,Mexico also produces patient monitor,black and white ultrasound machine and colour to exceed,X-ray machine,etc,By contrast,China's production of similar products are more higher quality and lower price.In order to avoid the products pose a threat to its medical equipment industry from China,Mexico government trade commission imposes on the policy of protective tariffs by 10%,which makes it difficult for China's medical treatment appliance products pile into Mexican market.

Another new situation is,in 1990s,the popular products in Mexican market of disposable medical equipment products from China(such as syringes,medical catheter,latex gloves,non-woven fabric or cotton sanitary materials,general surgery instruments,etc),now by the fierce competition of similar products from south Asian countries such as India,Pakistan,resulting in a decline in exports year after year.The industry believe that now China needs to develop targeted measures to Mexico's medical equipment market in order to promote the domestic medical equipment products exported to Mexico and other Latin American countries,so that China will offset the adverse impact of European economic recession of the medical instrument to China's export in some extent.
