01What are direct dyes?
Anionic dyes that colour cotton and other cellulose fibers straight from a neutral to slightly alkaline bath with salt, no mordant or covalent bond needed. Dragondirect runs 60-plus shades, each with its C.I. Direct number, dyeing depth and fastness figures in the brochure.
02What are examples of direct dyes?

03What is the difference between direct dyes and reactive dyes?
A direct dye holds onto cotton by weak molecular attraction, so it dyes in one simple bath but bleeds more in the wash. A reactive dye bonds inside the fiber and holds washing fastness 4 to 5. Direct dyes are the lower-cost route where that fastness is not required; Hongda's Dragonfix range covers the reactive side.
04Why are direct dyes called substantive dyes?
Because they have a natural affinity for cellulose and dye straight from the bath, without a mordant or a reactive group. In the Dragondirect brochure that shows up as the common dyeing curve: dye and a levelling assistant go in at 40°C, run up to 90-95°C for 30 minutes, then rinse.
05How do direct dyes work?
They dissolve as anions in a neutral to slightly alkaline bath with salt, sodium chloride or sodium sulfate, and settle onto the cellulose fiber through hydrogen bonding and van der Waals attraction, not a chemical bond. That is also why washing and light fastness stay moderate; the brochure lists both figures per shade so you can match the grade to the end use.
